Long time no see... and I wrote something

Wow, it has been a long time since I've posted anything. I'm still kicking, so I guess that's a good thing.

Can't remember if I ever told anyone this, but I am currently a Para at one of the local elementary schools here. I work with 2nd - 5th graders on a daily basis. Well, on Friday, in the 5th grade class, the teacher had the student do some free writing. They could write about anything as long as they wrote something. I didn't really have much to do other than help with the occasional spelling issue. So, I decided to write something too. This just came to me suddenly and it end up being really profound. I read it to the class, and the teacher and students all praised me for it. This is after most of the class had written and shared (some I feel more profound than mine).

The Hallways

I walk down the hallways.
I know where I'm going, but not what to expect when I get there.
Everyday is a different story; a different trial or tribulation; a different triumph.
Each story is not much different from the next, but some more extreme than others.
I weave myself in-between the lines; shaping lives; shaping dreams.
In the end, have I made a different?
Does walking down the hallways really do any good?
Did it all matter?

I hope so.

I've gone and done it again.

So, I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo again. I'm hoping to do better than last round. That shouldn't be too hard, since I didn't get anything written for it. I'm hoping this will help to kick start my muse a bit.

It's [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo time again.

I just got my [livejournal.com profile] hc_bingo card, and I really like it. I hope that I can do better than I did last round. I think I wrote only 3 fics. This will give me something to work on when I inevitably get writer's block or burnout from writing my [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang.

I just need to get this off my chest.

I've been stewing over this for a while, and trying to decide if I'm going to post anything or not. A few years ago, I probably wouldn't have, but both of these issues are popping up more and more lately and I couldn't hold it in anymore.

My first issue has to do with icons. IF YOU ALTER THE ASPECT RATIO OF THE IMAGE IN YOUR ICONS, I WILL NOT LOOK AT THEM!!! Now, I know I did it when I first started making them, but I realized rather quickly that it looks bad and learned how to fix it. If you don't know what I mean, it's when the image is squished and/or stretched. It usually happens when the image is cropped and resized. I know on PS there is a little clicky box in the Image Size window that says 'Constrain Proportions.' Click that, and you shouldn't have the problem anymore. I'm not familiar with other programs, but I'd think there would be something similar.

My second issue has to do with fic. IF YOU CAN'T BOTHER TO FORMAT YOUR FIC TO WHERE IT'S READABLE, I'M NOT GOING TO BOTHER TRYING TO READ IT. What bothers me the most is when there are no spaces between dialogue and paragraphs. Everything is just run together. It is really hard to read when it's like that. There should be spaces between paragraphs and between lines of dialogue. This is something that I learned in school, and because I enjoy reading and writing so much, this is a real problem for me.

I'm probably preaching to the choir with this post, but I just had to get it out. These are two basic things that most icon makers and fic writers know.

Looking back over this, I probably look a little OCD, but I know for a fact that I'm not the only person that these things bother.

Okay, that's me on my soapbox, and I think I'm done. I hope I don't sound too mean or bitchy. Just had to get this off my chest.

Writing meme

Grabbed from [livejournal.com profile] simplyn2deep.

Supposedly, it's #777 challenge day?! Who knew?

You go to the 7th page of your WIP, 7th line down, and copy/share the next 7 lines.

So, this is another excerpt from my long suffering AU. I need to get this thing done, but I have so many other things on my plate right now.

What's going on? )

I used a snippet from the Undercover fic I posted last week. This is very cool!!

ETA: I just did this again, using a ficlet I wrote last year. Still got the same result. At least I'm consistent.

I need more prompts!!!

I didn't get very many prompts on my last prompt post, so I'm asking for more. The only difference this time, I'm looking for stuff that will get me out of this angst train I've been on. I need happy and fun!! Again, I'm asking for just 1-2 words. I'll write you a Hawaii Five-0 fic of at least 100 words.

Prompt Me

I really want, and need, to write, but am having a hard time coming up with anything. I've got to do some writing for a challenge at [livejournal.com profile] fandomverse and need some inspiration. So, if you give me some 1-2 word prompts, I'll write you a Hawaii Five-0 fic. You can prompt more than once if you want, but there is no guarantee that I'll get to them all. I'll do my best to write everything.

WIP meme

I've seen this done in the past, but this is the first time that I've had a WIP that I could post a snippet from. Saw this on [livejournal.com profile] simplyn2deep's LJ today and thought I'd go for it.

This is an AU that I've been working on for almost a year. (I can't believe it's been that long!) I'm determined to finish it, and I'm hoping that since I had to read through it again today to find a good snippet I could post, without giving too much of the plot away, it would give me a push to work on it some more. I did just complete another chapter a few days ago, so I'm hopeful.

My year in writing

So, I've noticed other people on my f-list doing a round up of their writing for the year. I figured I'd make mine short, since I have a migraine, and there are four kids in my house ranging from age 10 to 18.

I jumped headfirst into the Hawaii Five-0 fandom in February, and I haven't looked back. I managed to write 50 Hawaii Five-0 fics for a total of 55,688 words. That's not including several WIPs and smaller challenge stuff that I never published outside of the landcomms I wrote them for.

I'm pretty amazed, since I've never been able to write like this before for any of the other fandoms I've been in.

I just signed up for the Steve/Danny After Holidays Fic Fest. Yes, I am crazy. I liked the last fic exchange I did though, so thought I'd give this a shot.

Seen on [livejournal.com profile] somehowunbroken and [livejournal.com profile] shinysylver's LJs.

Tell me about a story I haven't written, and I'll give you between one and three sentences from that story.

Since I pretty much only write Hawaii Five-0 fic, I'd stick with that. :)

My brain... let me show you the crazy.

As some of you know, I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] h50_exchange awhile back. Well, I finally started writing on it a couple of days ago. I have this great idea for it, but I just haven't been able to get it started. I think I'm finally past that obstacle.

The problem I'm having now is that my brain has decided to throw more fic ideas at me at the most inopportune moments. Last week, I was listening to my iPod in the car and a song that I had just added. It immediately screamed Steve/Danny, and I can't get it out of my head.

So, now, I have another fic that I have to write. I will not start it till I've finished the exchange fic, even though my brain threw me another loop last night. I had a dream that involved one of the most pivotal scenes in that song inspired fic. I was an eye witness to the scene and it seemed so real and complete. A lot of the details, I hadn't even figured out yet. It played out like a scene would on the show. I just hope that whenever I do start writing it, I can do it justice.

WTF, brain? I can't write that now. It has to wait. Stop it! Well, maybe not completely. I don't mind having Steve McGarrett show up in my dreams.

Fic meme

So, I saw this on a few of my friend's LJ's and I thought I'd give it a shot. Plus, I've hit a little writer's block, and I need a little push. Looks like fun, and I'm a little scared rationally concerned too. LOL

#1 The Hypothetical AU Meme: Give me another time period (Ancient Rome, Regency England, etc.) OR give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, etc.). I will then explain what Hawaii Five-0 story I would write.

#2 YOU pick a scene from one of my Hawaii Five-0 fics that you want to see from another character's perspective. I write it!

#3 Tell me about a Hawaii Five-0 story I haven't written, and I'll give you one sentence from that story.

#4 If you could force me to write anything, what would it be?

#5 The thing is, when people look for stories, they always make it sound like badfic. Now, often that's because it really is badfic, but sometimes it's good and they just suck at describing the story. So, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to summarize badly any one (or more!) of my stories and I'll try to guess which it is. You could even pretend you don't remember the pairing or fandom to make it harder to guess.
