The wind has arrived. No rain yet, but that should be here soon. When I woke up about an hour ago, I looked out the window, and the sky was purple! WTF??!!

There was a possibility that I would be going in to work today, but just talked to one of my co-workers, and she's staying at home. So, I'm staying home as well.

Things are looking pretty bad in south Texas. Severe flooding in Galveston and other coastal areas. There were hundreds of rescues there yesterday before the storm even hit. They are reporting that at least 1800 homes in Galveston are flooded. The historic Brennan's restaurant in Houston burnt down last night. There were also several other fires reported in the area, but nothing could be done because the fire crews couldn't get to them. There are also tons of windows that have been blown out of the highrise buildings downtown.

I'm hoping that our electricity doesn't go out.

My prayers and well wishes are with all the people who decided to stay and ride out this storm. [livejournal.com profile] tejas, let us know how you are, when you can.

That's all for now. If I don't lose power, I'll be around for most of the day.

We're still here, and we still have power. The wind is insane right now, though. It just started to really rain. I'm surprised we still have our satellite, as it is sitting at the peak of our roof, next to the chimney. I realized though, that it is on the side of the chimney away from the wind. I'm watching the tree limbs blowing around on our trees in the backyard, and it's amazing we haven't lost any major limbs yet. I'm worried about our fence. The front corner has already broken loose. I'm just hoping that the section doesn't fall. So far so good, though. I'm keeping an eye on it.

*keeps fingers crossed that we don't lose power*

ETA: Tornado warning a few parishes east of here. Looks like the worst is going to either side of us. The rain just picked up a lot, though. The lights keep flickering!

ETA2: Power went out for about a minute. I then heard a loud bang, and the electricity came back on. Um... isn't that supposed to happen the other way around?
